Marcelo, a Brazilian international, will leave Madrid in the coming weeks after the club decided not to renew its contract in the Spanish capital.
Marcelo has spent 16 trophy-laden seasons at Madrid, finishing as the club’s most decorated player with 25 major trophies to his name, including six La Liga titles and five Champions League titles.
He said his final goodbyes to the club and the Los Blancos fans earlier today, promising to play elsewhere in 2022/23.
Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos, among other former and current colleagues, have waxed poetic about the left-back.
After winning two leagues and four European titles together before Ronaldo’s departure in 2018, Ronaldo has joined the Marcelo love-in.
Ronaldo wrote on Twitter, “More than a teammate, a brother that football has given to me.”
“One of the biggest stars I’ve ever had the pleasure of sharing a locker room with, both on and off the field.”
“All the best on your new trip, Marcelo!”
Marcelo is expected to make an announcement on his future plans in the coming weeks, as he considers offers from throughout Europe and the Middle East, including Turkey, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
