Erik ten Hag, the new manager of Manchester United, has urged his team to regain the confidence and form that helped them finish in the top two just over a year ago.
Ten Hag is actively seeking new members for his group. With a £56.2 million initial transfer fee agreed upon with Barcelona, United is nearing a deal to sign Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong on the advice of the Dutchman. They are also nearing a £14 million agreement to sign Tyrell Malacia, the left-back for Feyenoord, who plays for De Jong’s Netherlands national squad.
The former manager of Ajax, Ten Hag, is also very interested in signing the 22-year-old attacker Antony, and United is also considering Lisandro Martinez as they want to improve their defensive alternatives.
Prior to the start of the new season, Ten Hag has made it obvious to his inherited squad that he does plan to add a few new players, but he has also stressed to the players that it is up to them whether United can bounce back from a disastrous 2021/22 campaign.
Last season, United finished a shocking 11 points below the top five in the Premier League and dropped all six of their away games. The 2020–21 season, in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer guided the team to a comfortable second-place finish, an unbeaten road record that lasted more than a year, and a European final, was a far cry from this one.
