According to Fabrizio Romano, who says the deal is confirmed, Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to join Chelsea this week. Chukwuemeka, who was described as “unbelievable” by one of his Aston Villa teammates, is said to be in London with his family and agents, awaiting medical tests with his prospective club.
Carney Chukwuemeka is just 18 years old yet has already made 13 senior appearances for Aston Villa, whose academy he played in during his youth. Before that, the Englishman was at Northampton Town. Additionally, the midfielder has already experienced glory on the international stage, winning the 2022 U19 Euros with England and earning a place in the team of the tournament.
Now Chukwuemeka is expected to make the first big move of his senior career by signing for Chelsea. As officially announced by the Blues yesterday, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs over his transfer.
The midfielder will reportedly cost them £15 million plus add-ons up to £20 million, with a contract spanning until June 2028.
Fabrizio Romano describes Chukwuemeka as “a top signing for the future”.
“Many, many clubs were interested in this top talent born in 2003. A really important player for Aston Villa, but he decided to not extend his contract with the club, prompting the manager Steven Gerrard to exclude Chukwuemeka from the team”, he said.
Barcelona for long seemed to have the upper hand in the transfer battle, with a bid for Chukwuemeka reportedly coming from AC Milan as well. However, Chelsea was triumphant in the end.
