Manchester United needs to strengthen their defense by bringing in a solid central defender, and Jurrien Timber has recently been linked with the club.
The Guardian reported a few days ago that Manchester United had begun talks with Ajax about signing the 20-year-old Eredivisie champion.
Marcel van der Kraan claimed yesterday in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT that Timber is close to agreeing on a move to Manchester United. According to the Dutch journalist:
“I’m absolutely convinced he’s going to get Timber. I know the player said he has to think about leaving Ajax. I think it was all political talk.”
“I think he’s already made his mind up and he will join Ten Hag. He’ll be a really important player for Ten Hag because he can change the build-up from the back. He can change the style.”
Timber, who made his debut for the Netherlands a year ago today, can effectively play as a central defender and also as a right back.
Last season, in all competitions, the youngster appeared in 43 games under the management of the current United boss and helped Ajax keep 26 clean sheets. The 6 ft defender also scored 3 goals and provide 2 assists.
Only seven teams in the Premier League conceded more goals than the Red Devils last term. Even relegated Burnley conceded 4 goals fewer than us.
Captain, Harry Maguire, was arguably our worst defender and if Timber does end up moving to Old Trafford, it will not come as any surprise to see him replace the England international in the starting XI.
