According to rumors, Cristiano Ronaldo‘s ‘final chance to leave Manchester United could come from Borussia Dortmund.
The striker’s future has dominated headlines all summer, with moves to Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Sporting Lisbon, among others, being mentioned.
The latter, however, is not an option for Ronaldo, according to CBS Sports, because the forward has “no appetite” to return to his hometown, and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is opposed to a transfer.
CBS also claims Atletico is looking unlikely for Ronaldo, with a deal described as ‘problematic’ for the Spanish side despite Diego Simeone retaining an interest in signing the 37-year-old.
But Dortmund may be a possibility, with club officials ‘holding internal talks’ as to whether to make a bid for Ronaldo, which could come in the form of a permanent or loan offer.
The report adds the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is encouraging the Bundesliga side to approach United, with Ronaldo open to the move. He would even be prepared to take a wage cut of over 30 % to make a deal happen, with the former Real Madrid star keen to play in the Champions League this season – something Dortmund could offer – while he feels the side could challenge for the German title.
Ronaldo is said to be unhappy with United manager Erik ten Hag and his training methods, with sessions said to resemble an ‘a boot camp’
The Red Devils have maintained their stance all summer that they are not willing to sell the forward, although ManchesterWorld has been informed that privately it has been discussed as a possibility.
Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that the club may allow a transfer if they receive a bid that is acceptable to all sides.’
Ronaldo is anticipated to play in United’s match against Liverpool on Monday, especially given Anthony Martial’s injury concerns.
The Red Devils’ No.7 missed the majority of pre-season as the controversy surrounding his future unfolded, but he has participated in each of the club’s first two Premier League matches of the season, beginning with last weekend’s 4-0 loss at Brentford.
