Following a successful month of Premier League action in August, Manchester City has been nominated for three high-profile awards.
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions went unbeaten in their first month of defending their English top-flight title.
The season got off to a winning start for the Blues, who won 0-2 at the London Stadium thanks to an Erling Haaland brace.
That was followed by a 4-0 home win over Bournemouth, as Manchester City made it back-to-back wins at the Etihad Stadium.
Their second away trip of the campaign was slightly more problematic, as a buoyant Newcastle United side held Manchester City to a dramatic 3-3 draw in the North-East.
Home victories against Crystal Palace and newly-promoted Nottingham Forest got Pep Guardiola’s side back on track, however, with 4-2 and 6-0 wins respectively putting the club in a commanding position towards the top of the table after the first month of action.
Such was the impressive nature of their performances that two members of the Manchester City set-up have received nominations across three categories this week.
First of all, Erling Haaland was put forward as a contender for the PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month, after his staggering nine-goal haul in his first five top-flight appearances.
Joining Haaland on the list of nominations are Gabriel Jesus, Pascal Gross, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Martin Odegaard, and Wilfried Zaha.
Erling Haaland’s nine goals in the Premier League in August were complimented by an assist too, putting him into double figures for goal contributions before the second month of the campaign.
This sensational output for the Norwegian international has also been recognized by the Premier League themselves, as Haaland has been nominated for the official Player of the Month award for August.
Joining Haaland are Pascal Gross, Gabriel Jesus, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Martin Odegaard, Nick Pope, Rodrigo, and Wilfried Zaha.
But you cannot go unbeaten in the Premier League across a calendar month without the tactical brain behind the operation being credited.
Pep Guardiola as such has been put forward as a nominee for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for August.
Joining Manchester City’s Catalan coach on the list of nominees are Mikel Arteta, Antonio Conte, Graham Potter, and Marco Silva.
