Manchester United was looking to strengthen their midfield during the summer transfer window, and they were primarily interested in Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Dutch international stayed with Barcelona, and Manchester United moved in to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.
De Jong is still on United’s radar, but Dean Jones believes the former Ajax man is doing well at the Nou Camp. According to the renowned journalist, GiveMeSport:
“Obviously, we expected Frenkie De Jong to come in, but he appears to be firmly out of sight at the moment.”
“He appears to be content in Barcelona; things appear to be going well for him there.” So, at this point, Caicedo is at least more likely than Frenkie De Jong.”
This season, Caicedo has been in world-class form for Brighton, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot in the Premier League table.
Last weekend, we covered a story (via The People) stating that to ward off interest from Man Utd and others, the Seagulls are preparing to reward the £100million-rated player with a bumper pay rise.
The Ecuadorian international has already admitted that his dream is to follow in the footsteps of compatriot, Antonio Valencia, and play for the Old Trafford outfit.
After starting the season in disastrous fashion, Man Utd have bounced back with four victories on the trot in the league but they still need to reinforce key areas.
Reports indicate (The Sun) that Ten Hag will have a decent transfer kitty to improve the squad in the January transfer window. In your opinion, should the DUtch manager splash the cash to sign Moises Caicedo?
