Douglas Luiz, an Aston Villa midfielder, is said to have told friends that he wants to join Arsenal in January after a move fell through during the summer transfer window.
Following the injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, Arsenal considered bringing in a midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed to CaughtOffside via his Substack column that Arsenal made a late move during the summer to try to sign Aston Villa midfielder Luiz.
Arsenal eventually pulled the plug, but the Brazilian midfielder appears to be eager to join the club in the near future.
According to Football Insider, Luiz has told friends that he wants to join Arsenal, and the club is looking to sign him in January.
Aston Villa is in a difficult situation because Luiz’s contract expires at the end of the season.
If Luiz wants to leave the club, he can do so by terminating his contract and leaving on a free transfer, so Aston Villa may be forced to sell him to Arsenal in January for a reduced fee, or risk losing him for nothing.
