Several outlets, including Mundo Deportivo and 90min, are suggesting that Newcastle is among a slew of clubs interested in rising sensation Azzedine Ounahi, who shone for Morocco in Qatar.
Ounahi is a club player for Angers in France. He joined the Ligue 1 team in 2021 for an undisclosed sum from third-tier French club Avranches. The 22-year-old made his Morocco debut in January of this year and has already earned 15 caps, including starts in all six World Cup matches.
Ounahi has risen from relative obscurity in Qatar with his runs through the midfield. Fox Sports commentator and former US Women’s star Aly Wagner could not stop raving about Ounahi during their quarterfinal win over Portugal.
Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lyon, and PSG have all taken notice, while Premier League clubs Leicester, West Ham, Southampton, and Wolves are also keeping an eye on the dynamic midfielder.
Angers may be eager to capitalize on their freshly gained asset. His contract is valid until 2026, and he has made 47 appearances for Angers, scoring twice and assisting twice. Ounahi, like his country, has been one of the breakout stars of this year’s World Cup, despite falling barely short against France today.
