In Man United’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage made strong impressions.
Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage, a dynamic young combo for Manchester United, are enjoying life on tour, especially in light of their performances in the victory over Liverpool.
United’s 4-0 thrashing of their fierce rivals in Thailand was the perfect start for Erik ten Hag as the club’s manager. The goals were scored by Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial, and Facundo Pellistri.
Though United started with a near-full strength starting XI, the new manager made 10 changes at the break which saw Savage and Iqbal come on together and form a center-midfield partnership. By the hour mark, after Jurgen Klopp made several changes of his own, Liverpool was close to their usual strongest side yet the young pair acquitted themselves well against such tough opposition.
Savage and Iqbal made their debuts together as they came on in the Champions League dead rubber with Young Boys last season and are now loving the experience of their first tour with the first team. “[It’s been] an absolutely amazing experience over here in Thailand,” Savage told United’s in-house media.
“The audience has been incredible. Being on this tour is a pleasure for me, so winning tonight was extremely wonderful. Except for our debuts, this is the first time I’ve actually gone through it, so it’s fantastic to see the fans and the support from all the Thai boys and ladies.
Iqbal made a point of thanking his followers and expressing excitement for the upcoming Australian part of the tour. “I’d just like to thank the manager for putting his trust in me and Sav,” he continued. “Playing a very tough Liverpool team and certainly coming away with the win?
“I’m eager about my first tour. Although it has been extremely hot and humid, the perspiration will only help us adjust to the season. It has been difficult to adjust to the last four days in Bangkok, and it is evident that we will soon be traveling to Australia.
There are nine hours of the time difference between there and England, so it will be challenging but exciting, and we are looking forward to it.
