Erik ten Hag has called up Charlie McNeill to the first squad, and the young striker was photographed in training on Wednesday.
The call-up is an excellent opportunity for McNeill to make an impression on Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, despite the club’s difficult start to the season.
McNeill was an unused substitute in Manchester United‘s final pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.
This was the young striker’s closest call to the first team, and he began the season with the under-21s.
McNeill was a substitute in United’s most recent under-21 fixture, with Spanish striker Mateo Mejia preferred.
But it was McNeill who got the nod to join Erik ten Hag’s most recent training session, where he was pictured alongside Christian Eriksen, James Garner, Scott McTominay, and Tyrell Malacia.
McNeill joined Manchester United from Manchester City in 2020 and scored five goals in the club’s FA Youth Cup winning run earlier this year.
The 19-year-old has scored 40 goals in all competitions in competitive academy matches across the past two seasons, and it is worth giving him a look to see what he is capable of.
Manchester United’s striker options are light, with Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo the options, one of who has been hit by injury, while the second wants to leave.
