Chelsea is moving forward with the Wesley Fofana transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano, by contacting the Fofana deal intermediaries. This is a huge step ahead for the deal, as the Blues look to the Leicester City center-back to shore up their defense.
The Blues are pushing hard for the deal as part of their large outlay to finish the transfer window. One of the main features of Thomas Tuchel’s side’s recent trip to Elland Road was defensive weakness.
Chelsea conceded three times to Leeds United when using a back line with wing-back Reece James in it. By adding a center-back to the squad, the Stamford Bridge side has more depth in the middle and far more tactical options.
A central defender has been of interest since the start of the window, with a move for Jules Kounde falling through earlier in the summer.
Whilst the Foxes originally held off on the potential of accepting an offer, it isn’t an ideal position for them. The center-back accepted personal terms with Chelsea and missed out on the matchday squad when the King Power welcomed Southampton.
The player wants the move, and with Leicester’s need to sell players before making any acquisitions, the £80 million+ transfer fee Brendan Rodgers is demanding from a Wesley Fofana transfer would go a long way towards providing a war chest for the coming weeks.
Would the Centre-Back Accept the Move?
In an interview with The Telegraph, the Frenchman expressed his desire to win trophies and represent France in the World Cup. Chelsea provides all of this and more. With five championships in five years, Stamford Bridge is a perfect destination for a player looking for his first piece of silverware.
Meanwhile, participation in the Champions League is perfect for raising the player’s profile. Didier Deschamps is on the hunt for the greatest. As a result, Wesley Fofana must compete against the finest in order to make the Qatar squad.
