Manchester United has issued a statement in response to Mason Greenwood’s charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault, stating that the player remains suspended by the club.’
The Manchester United forward was arrested in January 2022 and has been suspended from first-team activities ever since.
In a statement released on their official website, the club noted the suspension: “Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service.
“He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.”
The statement comes after Greenwood was charged on Saturday for the aforementioned offenses, with the GMP confirming this and the fact that he will appear at magistrates’ court on Monday.
“Greater Manchester Police has charged and remanded a 21-year-old man with controlling and coercive behavior, attempted rape, and Section 47 assault of a woman,” a statement read.
“Mason Greenwood, of Bowdon will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court on Monday 17 October 2022.
“He was arrested in the Trafford area earlier today (Saturday 15 October).”
