According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Bayern Munich by agent Jorge Mendes.
Last season, the Portugal international had a fantastic homecoming season for United, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
Despite his efforts, the club finished sixth in the Premier League, failing to win silverware for the fifth consecutive season.
This has fueled speculation that he may leave, and it has now been revealed that Bayern has turned down a bid to sign him.
If Robert Lewandowski leaves, the German champions intend to play Sadio Mane up front next season.
As things stand, Ronaldo will most likely remain with United.
Ronaldo was impressive in his United comeback campaign. He won several games in the Premier League and Champions League on his own.
Despite this, United struggled to maintain consistency in their play. The 37-year-old was let down by the inability of players such as Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford to consistently contribute to goals.
The defensive performance was also below par. Clean sheets were scarce, and it’s no surprise that manager Erik ten Hag wants to bolster the backline with new faces this summer.
There has been no transfer activity thus far. Although it is still early in the transfer window, most of United’s main rivals have already made headline signings and are close to completing other deals.
This could explain some of Ronaldo’s impatience. United was rumored to be planning a major squad rebuild, but the club’s hierarchy is still negotiating with Frenkie de Jong and considering a free transfer for Christian Eriksen.
United appears to be hesitant to pay around £8.6 million more for De Jong in order to meet Barcelona’s valuation. With the Glazers receiving £11 million in half-yearly dividends today, this is bound to raise eyebrows.
