According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong is expected to join Manchester United during the summer transfer window.
Frimpong has had a fantastic season with the Bundesliga team, recording five goals and three assists from 21 games. He has experience as a right-back and right-wing-back.
The 21-year-old is present with the Netherlands at the World Cup, but rumors connecting him to a move to Old Trafford continue.
According to Sky Sports Germany, the Dutchman is now aware of the Red Devils’ interest and would like to leave Leverkusen shortly.
It is added that his move to United is ‘becoming more and more imminent. Leverkusen is already on the search for a suitable successor for the 2023/24 season.
Frimpong is qualified to compete with Diogo Dalot
Frimpong has been impressive with Leverkusen this term with eight goal involvements. He has also excelled defensively with 1.7 tackles and one interception per game.
In our view, he should be a quality competitor for Diogo Dalot, who has had no competition for the right-back role. The Portuguese have started 20 of United’s 21 matches.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, has only played four competitive minutes. Because of his lack of offensive danger, the 25-year-old has fallen out of favor with Erik ten Hag.
United would love to sign Frimpong in January, but a deal is highly doubtful given the Glazers’ intention to sell the club in the coming months.
Transfermarkt currently values Frimpong at €25 million, but Leverkusen is known for demanding larger payments. They may easily ask for €40 million next summer.
