According to a story from Corriere dello Sport (today’s edition, page 18), Manchester United may make a serious attempt to recruit Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic during the January transfer window.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s release, the Red Devils will be looking for a new center-forward beginning in the following month. A marquee option might be secured before a short-term signing.
Vlahovic is one of those that has been linked with a possible transfer, and it is now reported that United is ‘ready to get serious’ about him at the turn of the year.
The Serbian, who might leave the Bianconeri in the next 12 months, has been linked to United, Arsenal, and Chelsea in addition to those three.
After Ronaldo went, United found itself lacking in the striking department. The squad’s senior forwards right now are Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, but the former has a history of injuries.
United cannot afford to rely on Martial’s fitness for the remainder of the season after three separate injuries this season. They must therefore look for another center-forward next month.
Vlahovic was superb during the first half of last season at Fiorentina but he has failed to replicate those displays since joining Juventus. Despite this, he has 20 goal contributions from just 36 games.
The Bianconeri’s ongoing issues over taxation could pave the way for Vlahovic’s exit this winter and United should be alert if they want to prise him away ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Juventus will seek to retrieve the full €70 million they initially spent for him. The key question is whether the Red Devils are willing to shell out such a significant sum in the middle of the current campaign.
Vlahovic, who is only 22 years old and has a ton of potential, seems like a decent signing in our opinion. However, his recurring groin problems, which have prevented him this year, should raise red flags for the team.
