Fabrizio Romano has provided insight into Cristiano Ronaldo’s mind after his failed transfer away from Manchester United.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Cristiano Ronaldo wants to focus on Manchester United after months of transfer speculation. After falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Erik ten Hag, the Portugal international has only started one Premier League match for the Red Devils this season.
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, however, he was consistently linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. The 37-year-old had made it clear that he wished to leave United for a second time, though it proved difficult to find a club willing to take him and his hefty wages on.
Writing in his blog, Romano said: “There’s still no update on Cristiano Ronaldo, as his agent Jorge Mendes was trying to find a solution during the whole summer but Thomas Tuchel blocked a potential move to Chelsea, while Bayern and other European clubs like AC Milan decided not to proceed. Cristiano wants to focus on Man United now.”
Ronaldo remained in Manchester past the transfer deadline but now faces competition for a spot in United’s starting line-up. Marcus Rashford has looked good as a central striker in recent weeks, while Anthony Martial is also favored by Ten Hag after an impressive pre-season.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, has yet to score from open play and has not started a Premier League game since the disastrous 4-0 loss to Brentford. Despite failing to sign Ronaldo in the summer, Chelsea is currently the favorite to sign him in the January transfer window.
