This is according to the dependable transfer guru, who discussed the future of the Argentine winger on his current Here We Go podcast.
The 18-year-old has exploded into the spotlight at Old Trafford this season, making just three Premier League appearances but scoring the game-winning goal against Fulham.
And the teenage winger left his mark on the Europa League by scoring the goal that secured United’s top spot in their group after defeating Real Sociedad in the last game of the group stages.
With a bright start made in his career at Old Trafford, Romano now believes Erik ten Hag is looking to tie Garnacho down to a long future at the Theatre of Dreams:
(5:00) “Alejandro Garnacho, negotiations are very advanced on a new deal. It’s something that Man United already wanted to do in the summer at the end of June when there was no full agreement between all parties, so they decided to wait a bit.
“Garnacho is now doing fantastically well. He is regarded as a great performer. As a result, Manchester United made a contract offer to Garnacho. The talks are still going on, but they are doing extremely well. Garnacho has signed a new five-year contract, with a significant wage as a first-team player.”
Given his electric start to life in the senior team, United’s determination to ensure Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford is unsurprising.
Perhaps more crucially, the 18-year-old is now in the final months of his contract, which will expire at the conclusion of the season.
And, regardless of whether he becomes United’s next great thing, after the start he has made, the Red Devils simply cannot risk losing what appears to be a huge talent to another club.
