Man Utd line-up vs Liverpool, 4-3-3 Ronaldo, Varane, and Malacia start
Manchester United host archrivals Liverpool in a late Premier League match at Old Trafford today.
The Red Devils have had a disastrous start to the season, suffering back-to-back defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. Last Saturday, they were defeated 4-0 in west London.
In response to that loss, manager Erik ten Hag ordered an extra jogging session for his players, and he will be looking for a better response from his team against Jurgen Klopp’s side this evening.
Based on recent confrontations, the odds are obviously stacked against United. The Red Devils have lost their last three meetings with Liverpool, each time allowing four or more goals.
Predicted Line-up:
David de Gea had a horrendous outing against Brentford last time around. His poor shot-stopping contributed to the opening goal. For the second, Christian Eriksen was displaced in his own box after a poor choice of a pass from the Spaniard. Despite this, Ten Hag has given his backing to the 31-year-old, and he is expected to continue between the sticks.
The defense should see a couple of changes from the Brentford humbling. Diogo Dalot seems an undisputed starter at right-back, having played 90 minutes in both fixtures thus far.
However, there is the possibility of Harry Maguire being dropped with Raphael Varane coming in for his first start of the campaign, We fancy the Frenchman to partner with Lisandro Martinez.
At left-back, Tyrell Malacia could be set for his full United debut ahead of Luke Shaw. Malacia is strong defensively compared to Shaw, and he could be tasked with keeping Mohamed Salah quiet.
In front of the backline, we fancy Fred to continue from the holding midfield position. The Brazilian has been far from his best but remains the best option until Casemiro becomes available for selection.
Instead of fielding another holding midfielder, we anticipate Ten Hag to continue with his creative duo of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes, though they may have added defensive responsibilities.
In the wide attacking positions, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are definite starters. Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be on track to lead the line ahead of Anthony Martial, who may be lacking in match fitness.
Anthony Martial has recently returned to training after a hamstring injury, but he may not be included in the starting lineup.
