According to one transfer insider, a high-priced Declan Rice move to Manchester United is “possible” based on two critical elements.
Rice has long been one of the Premier League’s most sought-after players. Indeed, the midfielder’s influence at West Ham United has attracted several suitors.
Over the last few seasons, the Hammers skipper has led from the front.
He has been one of West Ham’s most crucial assets. So much so, that he is now firmly in the category of being one of the league’s best players outside a ‘big-six’ club.
Whether or not he remains not at one of those clubs remains to be seen. It would be difficult to find one of those sides that wouldn’t be happy if he were to join them.
Of late, Man Utd and Chelsea have looked to be the two sides that are most interested in him.
The feeling that Rice has a gentleman’s agreement with the Blues has previously been reported.
However, the midfielder’s own comments point to a desire to play at Old Trafford. Indeed, ahead of a game against United earlier this season, Rice admitted you “want to” go and play at the ground.
Rice to United ‘possible’
A transfer for a new midfielder seems to be a distinct possibility at United soon. That is according to one insider, who has responded to claims that a £100million transfer is coming.
There are a couple of key factors that could contribute to that happening – the sales of a couple of midfielders.
“They’re gonna get one, possibly two [midfielders], but I think they’re going to struggle with two. But it’s dependent on the sales of Scott McTominay and Fred,” he said on his YouTube channel.
A recent report detailed how Fred will be free to leave United at the end of his contract, which is up in the summer of 2023. That means they will not recoup any money, so there will be less to go toward a big midfield snare.
They will hope that any other sales bring in decent funds – Harry Maguire has been tipped to be shown the door come the summer.
The insider also discussed the chances of a transfer for Rice, admitting he is on the list of major midfield talents being tracked.
“On the list is Jude Bellingham, [Bruno] Guimaraes, Declan Rice, Frenkie de Jong,” he said.
“Declan Rice would be interesting, because I know he’s turned down a contract there at West Ham. You kind of think, especially with the trajectory they’re on, that’s possible.”
Rice would, obviously, be a massive addition to the United side. It looks like the Red Devils will still have Chelsea to contend with, so that move will be far from plain sailing
