Despite United’s poor season, the 37-year-old finished the season on a high note, scoring 17 goals in the league.
Despite his best efforts, United finished the season with their lowest point total ever, although Ronaldo is certain to win the internal Player of the Year award and will now compete for the Professional Footballers’ Association honor against some of his peers.
Ronaldo is joined on the six-man shortlist by Kevin de Bruyne, Virgil van Dijk, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane, as shown above. Last month, De Bruyne was named Premier League Player of the Year, and he is presently the favorite to win the PFA title.
Ronaldo has had a season of goalscoring records, having become the all-time leading scorer in international football just days after returning to Manchester United in August.
With a brace against Arsenal shortly after, he scored his 800th career goal, and he now has a chance to win his second PFA Player of the Year title, after winning it in 2008.
