Manchester City is preparing a contract offer ‘worth £46 million‘ to first-team standout Bernardo Silva, according to new sources.
Manchester City is preparing a massive contract offer for star midfielder Bernardo Silva, with the goal of keeping him at the club beyond the conclusion of this season.
During the most recent summer transfer window, Bernardo Silva attracted plenty of attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Ultimately, the Portuguese international ended up staying in Manchester, with some believing that the player was holding out for one particular offer that never arrived.
Manchester City managed to tie down both Riyad Mahrez and Rodri to extended deals during a busy summer window, and more recently announced a new five-year deal with Phil Foden after extensive and prolonged talks with the England star.
Pep Guardiola’s attention will now be on attempting to tie down the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder, who has been an integral part of Manchester City’s title-winning seasons, and a part of the Catalan’s long-term planning at the club.
Bernardo Silva was heavily linked throughout the summer with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
Some subsequent reports have even gone as far as to say that the La Liga side will be making a fresh offer in January.
According to a new report from Football Insider, Manchester City have no intention of selling the playmaker in January, with his current contract running through to the summer of 2025.
Instead, it is reported that the Premier League champions will be looking to offer him a deal similar to teammate Phil Foden, with a five-year deal to stay at the club.
Bernardo Silva’s current contract sees him earn around £150,000 a week, although it is claimed that City is willing to offer him a huge pay rise, as well as an extension, in order to persuade him to remain at the Etihad Stadium.
The whole deal could be worth up to £46 million in total, across the length of any new deal, the report highlights.
Bernardo Silva has proven to be a fan favorite ever since his arrival from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017.
His technical ability on the ball, and determined work rate whenever he is on the pitch, have won the hearts of almost all City supporters.
The midfielder has made a total of 268 appearances for the club since his arrival and has contributed to the claiming of four league titles, an FA Cup, two EFL Cups, and the community shield.
During the 2021/22 season, Bernardo Silva played a staggering 50 times for Manchester City, and equaled his best goals tally return with 13, as well as receiving three successive club Player of the Season awards.
The 28-year-old made his 10th start of the ongoing Premier League season in City’s 0-1 away win over Leicester City at the weekend, with another fine performance.
It is not hard to see why the club is so desperate to retain the versatile midfielder in the new year and is hoping any fresh terms placed on the table are enough to persuade him that his future lies in Manchester.
