Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish cost Manchester City around £160 million and earn £420k per week in wages, but the pair aren’t exactly delivering on the field.
Mahrez and Grealish have combined for just two Premier League goals this season, and reports from Italy (via Sport Witness) suggest City is considering a potential upgrade in Rafael Leao.
The 23-year-old has been linked with City in the past and Vital Man City has played down the claims made as Guardiola is overstocked with forwards (Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Julian Alvarez), so a deal looks unlikely.
This latest report says that City harbors an interest in Chelsea after his four goals and eight assists from 13 games for AC Milan this season, but Guardiola isn’t going to sell an existing forward to bring in another.
Grealish has only been a City player for one year while Mahrez signed a new deal over the summer, so Leao won’t be coming to the Etihad Stadium. The Portuguese international is a talented player who’d arguably be better than Grealish and Mahrez right now, but City won’t make an offer.
Milan is also not interested in selling him. They’re attempting to bind him to a new contract beyond 2024.
The Vital Network differs from other football content providers in that all of the sites are run by fans, for fans. We’re looking for a writer to contribute to our Manchester City website. I’m interested in hearing from you if you can write well-constructed, thought-provoking opinion pieces in addition to reporting on current events and breaking news. Contact Paddy at [email protected].
