Manchester United is reportedly planning for Anthony Martial to stay at Old Trafford for another season.
The attacker has spent the last seven years at Old Trafford, making 269 appearances in all competitions and scoring 79 goals.
The 26-year-form old’s dipped in the most recent campaign, with only one goal in 11 appearances leading to a loan spell at Sevilla.
United had anticipated that the France international would impress the Spanish club enough to convince them to sign him on a permanent basis.
Instead, in 495 minutes of La Liga‘s action, the dynamic forward failed to score a single goal, with his only goal coming in the Europa League.
Sevilla president Jose Castro stated last month that the club would not pursue the full-time acquisition of Martial, admitting that the deal “didn’t work.”
United is now aware, according to the Manchester Evening News, that the player may not be able to obtain another move elsewhere this summer if he is not away.
According to the site, “nobody is breaking down the door” for Martial, indicating that he will start pre-season with the Premier League club.
Because Martial’s contract with United has two years left on it, Erik ten Hag is forced to consider a player who could otherwise have been overlooked.
Ten Hag may take advantage of the opportunity to give Martial a chance to impress during pre-season in order to pique United’s interest in signing him, with United willing to make a monetary concession.
Martial is rumored to be one of several United players who could be sold by Ten Hag, who wants to put his stamp on a team that struggled last season.
