As Manchester United nears a £46 million signing, Ajax bans Lisandro Martinez from team practice.
As Manchester United pursues a deal for the defender, Lisandro Martinez has been barred from participating in Ajax’s training sessions.
Large chunks of the summer transfer season saw the Argentine linked with a move to the Red Devils, with Erik ten Hag eager to reunite with his former player at Old Trafford. Arsenal, a rival in the Premier League, was also looking to get Martinez during this transfer window.
Reports have suggested that United have won the race for his services with suggestions that they had a £46m bid accepted by Ajax. However, Mirror Sport believes that not to be the case just yet with talks between the two clubs still at an advanced stage. Now, another development on the Argentinian defender’s future has seen a switch to Old Trafford edge ever closer. As per reports in the Netherlands by De Telegraaf, Martinez was not allowed to train with his Ajax teammates as they prepare for the 2022/23 season.
The Dutch giants apparently do not want to put a move in any jeopardy with an injury, instead limiting the defender to his own program in the gym. It remains to be seen when or even if he becomes a Red Devil but things appear to be going well.
After the 24-year-old stated his intention to leave, Ajax already realized they could not keep him, and they are prepared to accept United’s offer. In preparation for his departure, they have also been searching all of Europe for a suitable replacement.
While keeping manager Ten Hag informed of events, United CEO Richard Arnold and Football Director John Murtough are arranging the Martinez agreement. The Dutchman is now on the club’s pre-season tour in Australia.
