Manchester United may be without midfielder Scott McTominay after he missed the club’s first training session ahead of the match against Aston Villa.
Scott McTominay of Manchester United is uncertain for Saturday’s preseason friendly against Aston Villa in Perth. The Scotland international did not practice with the rest of the Red Devils group on Friday, instead working independently in the gym.
It wouldn’t be a surprise, then, if McTominay were to be an absentee at the Optus Stadium as Villa and United conclude their respective pre-season tours Down Under, having both boasted 100% records in their previous friendlies prior to this one.
James Garner, who helped Nottingham Forest clinch promotion to the Premier League last season, is expected to get his first run-out under new boss Erik Ten Hag, who is keen to check on the young midfielder as he shapes his plans for the new season.
New United signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez are the other obvious players who’ll not be lining up for the Red Devils, as well as the obvious missing Cristiano Ronaldo. Ten Hag is looking forward to linking up with his new recruits upon United’s return to England.
“Back in Manchester, Eriksen and Martinez will join, and then we have more options and I think they can quite quickly integrate into the team,” Ten Hag said. “We’ll set conclusions when we are back in Manchester, then we have some days to train and we’ll make our choices [as to when they’ll play].”
