Arsenal transfer news: According to recent rumors, the Gunners have reached a deal to sign Porto prodigy Fabio Vieira.
Arsenal is close to completing a deal to capture Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, according to football.London.
Arsenal has been watching Portugal under-21 international for some time and has apparently negotiated a €40 million (£34 million) deal with him. As Arsenal seeks to take advantage of Porto‘s financial difficulties, this is less than Vieira’s release clause, which is reported to be approximately £42 million.
Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all been connected with Vieira. Last season, the 22-year-old scored seven goals and added 16 assists, and he still has three years left on his Porto contract.
Arsenal is eager to add to their squad just a year after spending more than £140 million on six first-team players during the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta, according to football.London, wants to bring in at least one attacker, a central midfielder, and a backup fullback, with further arrivals conceivable depending on who leaves the club in the following weeks.
If statements from Portugal Under-21 coach Rui Jorge are to be believed, the brilliant playmaker has a bright future ahead of him. “Fabio had a good game last year,” Jorge stated regarding Vieira.
“He is a technically skilled player who excels in defining, but he still has to work on a few facets of his game before he can be considered a full-fledged player. He is aware of this and intends to address it. If Fabio sees fit, he has a bright career ahead of him. I believe he aspires to be the best player he can be. I believe we will be able to meet a fantastic player.”
Vieira would be Arsenal’s third summer acquisition after Marquinhos was completed this week and a deal for Matt Turner is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
