The £59 million-rated winger Antony, who is also a target for Manchester United this summer, has also attracted interest from Liverpool.
Football Insider claims that Liverpool is looking into a summer transfer for Manchester Antony. The Brazilian winger, who is wanted by Manchester United and valued at £59 million by Dutch champions Ajax, has been in contact with the Reds over a potential transfer.
Liverpool has completed three signings this summer, with Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, and Fabio Carvalho arriving at Anfield. The Reds appeared to have completed their frontline following the record-breaking signing of Nunez. But going by their links with Marco Asensio this summer, it is safe to say Liverpool is still on the lookout for more attacking reinforcements, especially in wide-areas following Mane’s exit.
Liverpool has now turned their attention towards hijacking Manchester United’s move for tricky Brazilian winger Antony. The 22-year-old has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most skillful and productive wide-attackers thanks to his flashy skills.
The Brazilian international joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in 2020 for a fee of around £14 million and has since gone on to make 79 appearances for the Dutch club, yielding 22 goals and 20 assists in the process. Antony also produced a string of stellar displays in the UEFA Champions League last term and is a regular in Tite’s Seleção setup as well.
Despite having three years left on his contract with Ajax, Antony could leave the Dutch giants in the summer transfer window, since he is one of the most sought-after players on the market. The Dutch giants value Antony at around £59 million, a fee Liverpool is said to not be willing to pay for the player, even though he features high on their list of attacking targets.
Manchester United is also in a similar situation. They are also hesitant to pay the asking price for the 22-year-old, who has been heavily tipped for a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford since the start of the window. But a move has stalled in recent weeks.
Manchester United has a very lopsided attack. The right-wing has been a long-standing problem area, and Jadon Sancho was brought in to address it. Yet last season he flourished only when shifted to the left flank, which is jam-packed with talent. Antony, to that end, fits the criteria, although a potential move could hinge on Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has been quick to express their interest in Antony. But from the player’s standpoint, he is unlikely to be guaranteed proper game-time, with Mohamed Salah a certain starter in his position. Whether the Reds will iron out favorable terms for the transfer remains to be seen. But Ajax would undoubtedly want a transfer war between Liverpool and Manchester United to ramp up the transfer fee.
