According to rumors, Barcelona star Memphis Depay is willing to stay at the Nou Camp following the transfer deadline on Thursday. The Netherlands international has been linked with a surprise return to Manchester United at a time when the La Liga giants are attempting to offload him. However, with the Red Devils having recently signed Antony from Ajax, there’s no assurance he’ll be moving.
Depay performed admirably for Barcelona after replacing Lionel Messi last summer, netting 13 La Liga goals as the club finished second in the table.
However, since his move from Lyon 12 months ago, the Catalan titans have proceeded to bolster their attack with deals for the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres.
With Barcelona hoping to balance their finances, they’re open to cutting Depay loose. They were at one point prepared to let him join Juventus for free, though it seems they now want a fee for the Netherlands international.
Manchester United have emerged as prospective bidders amid the uncertainty surrounding the forward’s future, five and a half years after the player left Old Trafford.
However, according to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, speaking on his YouTube channel, Depay is open to staying in Barcelona if a move away fails to materialize.
