Germany’s final game before the World Cup in Qatar was an eventful one. Hansi Flick’s team blew a two-goal lead by conceding three goals in the final nine minutes of the game. Late in the game, Germany’s Kai Havertz scored the equalizer. On Monday, Germany produced several strong performances, but attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich was the standout performer.
Musiala was starting against England at Wembley Stadium for the first time in his career, so it was a special evening for him. The German midfielder was unfazed by the occasion and delivered a brilliant performance in a big game.
Hansi Flick decided to use Musiala in the number ten role, occupying space in front of the midfield pivot of Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Gundogan. He always showed up between the lines for Kimmich and Gundogan to play the pass into him and launch attacking moves. Musiala played a big role in most of the promising attacking moves for Germany.
Musial’s quick feet helped him to win the penalty for Germany. The teenager pressed aggressively to win the ball in the final third. After winning the ball, he managed to go past Harry Maguire quickly, which induced a foul. The penalty was won by Musiala’s great skill and awareness in the final third.
The youngster was easily beating English players in the center of the park. He managed to complete four out of six attempted dribbles on Tuesday. Musiala was causing all sorts of problems for English midfielders and defense. His decision-making was accurate in most circumstances. (Stats courtesy: FotMob)
Jamal Musiala managed to thrive in a position where Germany relied on Thomas Muller for most of the last decade. Former Bayern defender Lothar Matthaus had big praise for Musiala after the game as he insisted that the youngster should be starting most of the games for Germany from now
Bayern will be hoping to see Musiala extend his good run of form in October. The German attacking midfielder will be playing a key role in transforming Die Roten’s fortunes in the Bundesliga. The German club is currently on a winless run of four games in the league.
