Arsenal‘s summer transfer business began with the purchase of Brazilian super kid Marquinhos.
Arsenal has completed the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian Marquinhos from Sao Paolo after a seven-month monitoring period.
The signing begins off what is expected to be a hectic summer for the Gunners, with additional signings and departures expected ahead of next season.
Mikel Arteta wants to create competition within his side and get them back into the Champions League, therefore the highly-rated teenager is poised to join the north London club for pre-season.
With the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January, the Spanish manager still has some holes to fill.
During his stint with Sao Paulo, Marquinhos made 33 first-team appearances and was a member of the club that won the Compeonato Paulista in 2021.
“We’re thrilled to have finalized the trade with Sao Paulo since Marquinhos was a player we had been studying for a while,” Arsenal technical director Edu stated.
“At 19, he’s still very young, so he’s a future player.”
“We’re excited for Marquinhos to join us for pre-season, find his new home, and continue to develop and grow with us.”
Mikel Arteta is anticipated to get his team in condition for what is expected to be another exciting season when the Gunners begin pre-season on July 8.
