Gabriel Martinelli greeted Marquinhos, Arsenal‘s newest signing, as the Brazilian teenager follows in his footsteps.
Martinelli, 20, joined in 2019 as a little-known striker from Ituano in South America, and there are some striking similarities between the two attackers.
The Gunners confirmed Marquinhos’ £3 million transfer from Sao Paulo on Monday.
“Welcome brother, we are together,” Martinelli wrote on Instagram after hearing the news.
With a video on his social media, Marquinhos, 19, paid respect to the region of Brazil where he grew up.
He wrote, “I shall never cease being MADE IN COTIA.”
Marquinhos has been a long-term target for Arsenal, according to technical director Edu, and the player is expected to battle for a spot in Mikel Arteta‘s first team throughout pre-season.
“At 19, he’s still extremely young, so he’s a player for the future,” he remarked. We’re excited for Marquinhos to join us for pre-season, find his new home, and continue to develop and evolve with us.”
