Arsenal has announced that Eddie Nketiah has signed a new long-term contract with the club and will now wear Thierry Henry‘s iconic 14 shirt number.
The 23-year-contract old’s at The Emirates was set to expire at the end of the month, but the club has moved to extend it after he had a fantastic season, scoring five goals in his final eight games.
The alleged five-year new contract puts a stop to transfer rumors linking him to clubs in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
“I’m glad Eddie is sticking with us,” said manager Mikel Arteta. He embodies all we stand for and all of the club’s ideals.
“We are overjoyed that he has extended his contract; now we must get down to business and continue to develop the amazing talent and person we have in him.”
Nketiah will also wear the renowned No. 14 shirt, which was notably worn by all-time leading scorer Henry, after previously wearing No. 30.
Nketiah came through Arsenal’s development system, joining the club at the age of 14, and has since made 92 first-team appearances for the Gunners, scoring 23 goals.
He has won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his spell at the north London club.
He has 16 goals in 17 appearances for England Under-21s and led the team that won the European Under-21 Championships in 2021.
