Jurgen Klopp anticipates ‘one or two Liverpool players returning after the international break,’ and here are the most likely candidates. The Reds have a lot of options right now.
Liverpool currently has a lengthy injury list, but it should thin out after the international break. The postponement of Sunday’s game against Chelsea gives the Reds an immediate boost – there won’t be another game until October 1st.
The World Cup break will begin in approximately six weeks. In other words, enjoy watching Liverpool while they’re back because it won’t be long.
That also means that Jurgen Klopp will want players back quickly. He told beIN Sports that “one or two” should return for that game on October 1st against Brighton.
Liverpool players most likely to return
Liverpool has a lot of players out right now. Their injury list on Liverpoolfc.com highlights them all: Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ibrahima Konaté, Calvin Ramsay, and Caoimhín Kelleher.
Now, Ramsay and Kelleher aren’t truly in contention for places, so we can’t imagine Klopp means them. Keita, Henderson, and Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out indefinitely, too.
Klopp does say that Keita should be back in October but that doesn’t appear to mean for October. We’d expect him back mid-month.
Similarly, Klopp only sounds halfway sure that Robertson could return ASAP. There appears to be half a chance that we see the Scot on October 1st but it’s unlikely.
And so the most obvious players appear to be Konaté and Jones.
“Ibou will be back in training in and around the international break,” Klopp said earlier this month. Last season, Virgil van Dijk described the player as “fantastic.”
When asked about Jones, Klopp sounded frustrated rather than concerned. “It wasn’t as bad as the first time, but it was bad enough to keep me from participating in team training again,” he said.
Jones, whom Klopp describes as “incredible,” has been plagued by injuries this season. Fortunately, it appears that this is a minor injury, and he should be back before football season resumes.
