Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in signing Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to CalcioMercato.
This season, the Georgian has been one of Europe’s surprise packages. He has been incredible for Napoli, and his performances have wowed everyone.
During the summer, Kvaratskhelia was a wanted man. He was linked with a number of clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United (Il Mattino), but Napoli ultimately secured the deal for only £8.7 million (GIFN).
The Georgian has risen to prominence since moving to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The winger, branded as ‘superb’ by Gary Lineker on Twitter, has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in just over 1000 minutes of football, which is a truly sensational return for a wide player who’s still only 21.
It has been claimed on the outlet that Liverpool and Manchester City are paying ‘great attention to Kvaratskhelia, who could soon become a target for many more clubs if he continues his tremendous form.
Kvaratskhelia’s current contract at Napoli expires in the summer of 2027. That puts the Serie A leaders in a very strong position, and they’ll surely demand a fortune to let him go anytime soon.
Joe Gomez struggled against Kvaratskhelia last month
Liverpool faced Napoli in the Champions League last month in a game that many expected them to win. However, Kvaratskhelia and co had different plans.
The 21-year-old tormented Joe Gomez at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. He didn’t give the Englishman a moment’s rest and Tuttomercatoweb gave the Liverpool defender a 3/10 rating for his shocking display.
The Reds face Napoli again next month and Kvaratskhelia will be hoping to do what he did six weeks ago. Gomez is in much better form now, but containing the Georgian is easier said than done.
It will be interesting to see how Kvaratskhelia will fare at Anfield. If he has another good game against the Reds, Klopp may well decide to make a move for him in one of the next two transfer windows.
