According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Liverpool is considering signing Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen.
The Reds have indicated an interest in bringing the 23-year-old to Anfield, according to the Italian outlet.
They further claim that the Merseyside club has been advised that a bid of at least £87 million is required to acquire his services.
The Mirror reported in the summer that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was interested in signing Osimhen, along with Arsenal and Manchester United.
However, a suggested deal never materialized, and the player remained at Napoli.
When you look at the striker’s numbers in front of the goal, it’s easy to see why the Reds have been interested in him for a long time.
Osimhen has scored nine goals in 11 Serie A matches this season. In the Champions League, he also scored as his team defeated Ajax 4-2.
The 23-year-old has a one-in-two strike rate so far. He has 38 goals in 76 appearances for Napoli. He repeated the same thing in Lille, where he scored 18 goals in 38 games.
During his comeback against the Dutch giants, the attacker turned down a penalty, instead passing the ball to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Didier Drogba, who was already impressed by his performance, moved to Twitter to laud the number nine.
“That’s a complete striker: selflessness… the true essence of winning as A TEAM,” he shouted.
With such a high conversion rate, it is natural to infer that a forward like Osimhen has a selfish streak. This could not be further from the truth.
Klopp would be delighted, as this is the type of player he prefers to surround himself with at Kirkby.
Having said that, an £87 million move for a striker, when the team desperately needs a midfielder, appears implausible.
