Liverpool announced today that Diogo Jota has signed a new contract, but how significant is this for the club’s future?
Jota, 25, has recently established himself as a regular in the Liverpool lineup.
He displaced Roberto Firmino as the main center-forward after seeing his good form rewarded with regular minutes.
His 15 league goals and five assists demonstrate that he is an important member of this Liverpool team, and he should remain so for the duration of his new contract.

Since joining Wolves in the summer of 2020, the Portuguese forward has scored 34 goals in 85 appearances for the Reds
His best run of form came last season as he totaled 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions. He averages a goal every 145 minutes and has been a success for the Reds so far.
He’s also developed a taste for scoring against Arsenal – with seven in seven games in a Liverpool shirt against the Gunners.
“Well, I have to say, [I’m] really proud,” Jota said after signing his new contract with Liverpoolfc.com. “Obviously, I’ve established myself as an important player in this team since I arrived two years ago – that’s what I wanted from the start.”
“Now, signing a new long-term contract is obvious proof of the club’s belief in myself as a player.” It’s obviously important for me to establish that I’ll be here for a while.”
Jota also stated that his injury will keep him out of the game for the “next few weeks.”
