The Reds came from behind to win 3-1 at Anfield on the final day, while Aston Villa led 2-0 at the Etihad with 14 minutes left. City, on the other hand, scored three goals in five minutes to retain the title, one point ahead of Liverpool.
Despite the heartbreak on the last day, Liverpool had a good domestic season, winning the League Cup and FA Cup, and can complete a treble with a win over Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday.
“This season has been absolutely wonderful and will not end today; it will, undoubtedly, end next week,” Klopp added. “And there, we’re going to try everything.”
“We have five days to prepare for the final, and we will do so.” And, of course, losing the league tonight heightened the need to make amends the next week.”
Klopp congratulated City and manager Pep Guardiola on winning the Premier League for the fourth time in five years.
“Of course, I’m proud, but I’m also disappointed,” Klopp added. “There could be worse circumstances; for example, if you were a point up and didn’t make it, that could be even worse.”
“Congratulations to Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, the entire staff, all players, and the entire club for winning the Premier League.” We were close, but not close enough in the end. That’s the way things are.”
